Today, COSWOHI joins the global community in celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child a day to recognize the rights of girls and the unique challenges they face worldwide.

This observance is not just a celebration but a call to action a reminder that every girl deserves equal access to health, education, safety, and opportunities to thrive.

At Committed Soul Women Health Advocacy Africa Initiative (COSWOHI), we believe that when a girl is empowered, a generation is transformed. Yet, across many communities, girls still face early marriage, teenage pregnancy, unsafe abortions, limited access to education, and gender-based violence.

These barriers rob them of their voices, dignity, and potential. Our Executive Director’s story reflects this reality she became a mother at 18, and her younger sister lost her life to early pregnancy at 15. Her experience is a powerful reminder of why our mission matters: every girl deserves the right to live, learn, and lead.

Why This Day Matters

Millions of girls remain out of school, especially in marginalized communities. Early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and lack of access to reproductive health information continue to endanger their futures.

Gender-based violence and harmful norms silence their voices and limit their potential. COSWOHI’s Commitment Advocate for comprehensive sexuality education. End child marriage and teenage pregnancy. Strengthen access to reproductive health services. Create safe spaces where girls can learn and lead.

Challenge harmful cultural practices and promote equality. Amplify girls’ voices as leaders and change-makers.

We envision a world where every girl is safe, educated, healthy, and confident free to make choices about her body and future. When a girl rises, the world rises with her.
